Blythewood All-Stars #bringthewood at State

Emma Ashley awaits a pitch in 12U’s championship game against Union on Wednesday. Along with Machine Pitch All-Stars, the 12U team finished as State Runner Up.

BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood Youth Baseball and Softball league had a full slate of State Tournament games on the heels of the T-Ballers claiming third place in their state tourney bid last weekend.

Blythewood stood strong in the tournament, and all teams battled through the brackets. The Machine Pitch all-stars, 12U girls and the O-zones took home wins in their first games, but the 10U girls suffered a first round setback against to Aynor.

Machine Pitch

After their 3-1 game one win against Pickens on Saturday morning, the Machine Pitch team toppled Moncks Corner 10 – 4 later in the evening. They faced Orangeburg Sunday and came away with a 6-2 win, then defeated Pickens 11-1 and Orangeburg 11-8 on Monday to advance to the championship series against Hilton Head.

Unfortunately, the Moncks Corner squad prevailed in a two game sweep to take home the championship.

12U Softball

Neilah Browne’s six-RBI performance powered the 12U girls to a game one win over Georgetown on Saturday, but they stumbled against Florence in the Sunday’s second round matchup. They knocked off Bluffton on Monday with a huge 24-2 win and kept the momentum with a 14-12 win against Florence to advance to the State Championship game on Wednesday.

The squad faced a tough Union team Wednesday morning and suffered a 11-0 loss to finish as state runner-up.

OZone

The Ozone team entered the state tournament with a bang, taking down Moncks Corner with a 15-0 win, highlighted by a homerun from Harrison Collins. Hartsville Northern handed them their first loss of the tournament with a tight 4-3 finish. Miller Stuck notched another homerun for the team in their tournament run in Sunday’s Hartsville Northern game.

Monday saw new resolve from the Ozone team as they took down Union 3-1. Their run came to a close on Tuesday after a tight 2-1 loss to Midland.

10U Softball

After the loss to Aynor on Saturday, the 10U squad stayed alive in the tourney with a

7-5 win on day two with a 17-0 win over Colleton on Sunday. They took down their next victim, Loris, on Monday with a 7-5 win, but were eliminated in a rematch with the tough Aynor squad on Tuesday.

T-Ball

The Blythewood T-Ball All Stars had a strong run in the inaugural State Tournament and finished third overall.  They finished as District Runner-Up in the District 4 tournament in June, hosted in Blythewood, which qualified them for the State Tournament.

“What an accomplishment this was,” said Manager Kevin Allen. “I am so proud of this team.  There were over 500 teams that started play in District tournaments and we finished third overall.”
