LAKE WATEREE – Lake Wateree VFW Post 8346 will host its annual flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, Thursday, June 14.
Members of the community are encouraged to bring a flag they would like to retire in recognition or in memory of a loved one. Taps will be played and the flags will be ceremonially disposed of.
“If you have a flag you would like to have retired but can’t come to the ceremony, just drop it off at town hall and I’ll pick it up and retire it for you,” Town Councilman Eddie Baughman announced at the last Council meeting. “Each year we retire about 300 flags. Last year we retired a large garrison flag that flew over the Fort Jackson national cemetery.”
Following the flag retirement ceremony, hot dogs and drinks will be provided by the post.
The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the post which is located at 74 Veterans Drive in Ridgeway.
