COLUMBIA – After a strong showing at the 4A state qualifiers, the Westwood Redhawks carried their momentum over and dominated the South Carolina High School League State Championships. The Redhawk boys clinched a State Runner-Up title for the second season in a row. The Lady Redhawks finished third overall, their best team finish in school history.
Jasmine Brown finished in third for the Redhawks in the girls’ 200 meter dash. The girls’ 4X100 relay team finished in third, just three tenths of a second off of second place. Keionna Ray took home bronze in the girls’ long jump and in the triple jump.
Kayla Racine came out on top for Westwood in discuss and finished second in shot put. Christian Horn brought home gold for Westwood in the boys’ 400 meter dash. Trini Feggett notched another gold for the Redhawks in the boys’ long jump. The 4×400 relay team of Torran Goings, Malik Donald, Montre Miller and Cristian Horn also brought home gold. Paul McCants sped his way to third place in the boys’ 800 meter.
The Westwood boys 4×100 relay team, Torran Goings, Trini Fegget, Montre Miller and Dermonti Romney, broke the state record with a time of 41 seconds as they topped Ridge View and Lower Richland for the gold.
The Blythewood boys finished 16th and the ladies finished in 27th. Robert Braswell clinched Blythewood’s only first place finish of the evening in the boys’ long jump.
