BLYTHEWOOD – As graduation nears in the coming weeks, nine seniors from Westwood High School took their next steps as they signed their collegiate letters of intent last week. Matthew Oxendine (baseball), Kayla Racine (track), Keionna Ray (track), Jasmine Brown (track), Trini Feggett (track), Torran Goings (track), Jennifer Angeles (soccer), Mya Belton (basketball) and Oliver Ellis (tennis) committed to athletics at the collegiate level next semester.
Matthew Oxendine, son of Lee and Kim Oxendine, announced his intention to play baseball at USC Beaufort in Beaufort, South Carolina. Oxendine, pitcher for the Redhawks, earned 2018 All Region honors and was named to the 2018 Carolina Wings and Ale House All-Tournament Team.
Kayla Racine, daughter of Uvette and Warren Rogers, announced her intention to continue her shot and discus career at the University of Tennessee. Racine was a state finalist in Shot Put and Discus, Region Champion in Shot Put, and holds the school record in discus throw.
Keionna Ray, daughter of Dawn and Keith Ray, announced her intention to continue her track and field career at the University of North Carolina Pembroke. Ray, a jumper and sprinter for Westwood, was Region Champion in the 4×100 relay, and state finalist in triple jump, long jump and 4×100 relay.
Jasmine Brown, daughter of Fred and Venitta Brown, announced her intention to continue her track and field career at the University of South Carolina Upstate, in Spartanburg, SC. Brown, a sprinter for Redhawk Track, is Region Champion in long jump, 100, 4×100 relay and was named team Most Valuable Player.
Trini Feggett, son of Janna Gaddy and Darren Gaddy, announced his intention to continue his track and field career at Western Carolina University, in Cullowhee, NC. Feggett, a sprinter/jumper for the Redhawks, is a 2017 State Champion and All American and a four-time Region Champion. He is a five-time USA Track and Field National Qualfiier and New Balance National All-American in 4x100m relay. Feggett has been a member of the National Society of High School Scholars since 2016.
Torran Goings, son of Torran Goings Sr. and Lavonda Chaplin, announced his intention to continue his track and field career at the University of North Carolina Asheville, in Asheville, NC. Goings, a Redhawk sprinter, is a five-time Region Champion, two-time All-American, State Champion, five-time USA Track and Field National Qualifier, New Balance National All-American in the 4×100 relay and a Junior Scholar.
Jennifer Angeles, daughter of Isabel and Teo Angeles, announced her intention to continue her soccer career at Columbia College in Columbia, SC. Angeles, a goalkeeper for the Redhawks, is a four-year letterman and two-year captain for the Redhawks. Angeles is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and a CATE completer.
Mya Belton, daughter of Gregory and Clarissa Belton, announced her intention to continue her basketball career at Tusculum College in Tusculum, TN. Belton, a guard/forward for the Redhawks, was the second Lady Redhawk in school history to hit 1,000 points. Belton is in the Beta Club, National Technical Honors Society, National Arts Honors Society, National Dance Honors Society and is a CATE completer.
Oliver Ellis, son of Robin Blume and Rick Ellis, announced his intention to continue his tennis career at Spartanburg Methodist College.
