Four BHS seniors commit to colleges

BLYTHEWOOD – With graduation less than a month away, Blythewood High School recognized four members of the Class of 2018 as they announced their plans to continue their careers on the collegiate level. Devin Campbell (track), Aidan Shay (soccer), Logan Shay (soccer) and Zahria Thomas (volleyball) have each committed to athletics at their respective colleges next semester.

Devin Campbell, son of Marlon and Jacqueline Campbell, announced his intention to run track at North Greenville University in Greenville, South Carolina. Campbell runs the hurdles and 4×400 for head coach Alonso Wilson at Blythewood. An A/B Honor Roll student, Campbell earned All-Region and All-State honors a year ago by qualifying for the State Championship Meet in the 400-meter hurdles. Campbell will once again represent Blythewood at the State Championship Meet this week- end in the 400-meter hurdles.

Aidan Shay, son of Tom and Kelly Shay, announced his intention to join his twin brother, Logan, in the soccer program at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. Shay is a center back for head coach Peter Wittig at Blythewood. A three-year starter at Blythewood, Shay earned Best Defensive Player honors at Blythewood. He was selected to play in the Clash of the Carolinas All-Star game.

Logan Shay, son of Tom and Kelly Shay, announced his intention to join his twin brother, Aidan, in the soccer program at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. A striker for head coach Peter Wittig at Blythewood, Shay is a three-year starter for the Bengals. Shay scored 25 goals and earned 37 assists in his career at Blythewood. He earned Offensive Player of the Year for Blythewood and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Soccer Classic next month.

Zahria Thomas, daughter of Marlon and Sherretta Thomas, announced her intention to continue her volleyball career at Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina. A Libero for head coach Mary Hall at Blythewood, Thomas was named to the All-Region team and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors her senior year. Thomas is a member of the National Honors Society and recently earned certification as a nursing assistant.
