WINNBSORO – Eighth graders Elena Frick and Joshua Mosley will attend a two week summer program designed for rising ninth graders with an interest in Creative Writing, Drama, Music, or Visual Arts at the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities.
While attending auditions, Mosley said they were encouraged to roam around the area and take a campus tour.
“Surprisingly, the visual arts auditioning process wasn’t too intense,” Mosley said. “I drew a still life drawing and met with SCGSAH staff to discuss the drawings in my sketchbook. It’s an opportunity to find out if I am interested in attending the Governor’s School.”
While Frick and Mosley will work intensely in their individual art areas, they will be exposed to other forms of art with opportunities to attend performances and guest lectures.
“The program is a college experience,” Frick said, “full of dorms, bunk beds, roommates, and art classes. It’s an opportunity for me to be exposed to different forms of visual arts and to see if I like the subjects and the school itself. I will get a chance to see if I like the life on campus environment.”
