COLUMBIA – The baseball and softball regular seasons have reached their conclusions, and that means the State recently released their season-ending Midlands stat leaders. Blythewood and Westwood are well-represented.
Blythewood’s Landon Lucas led Midlands in home runs with six, and his teammate John Lanier was a few spots behind with three. Brady Carson, and Ben-Lang Spittler, also from Blythewood, had two.
Lucas also headed up the list of RBI leaders with 30. Lanier had 20, Carson and Lang-Spittler had 16, and fellow Bengal Brady Beasley also had 16. Lucas also made the list of doubles leaders with eight, and his teammate Jansen Stokes also had eight. Westwood’s Elijah Heatley made the list with six doubles.
Harvey Smith, a Fairfield Central Griffin, rounded out the top-10 in batter average. He hit for a solid .432, and teammate Chazi Jones was a couple spots below with an excellent .429 average. Fellow Griffin Montavious Thompson was also on the list with .400 average and Landon Lucas was right behind Thompson with an average of .400.
Griffins’ pitcher Jacob McManus had the lowest ERA of all pitchers in Blythewood and Fairfield. He baffled hitters all season and finished up with 1.04 ERA. Ben-Lang Spittler ended the regular season with 1.87, and Westwood’s Matthew Oxendine rounded the leaders with his 1.96 ERA.
McManus, Lang-Spittler and Landon Lucas were all tied with four wins a piece. Oxendine finished in the top five among strike out leaders with 55 punch-outs. Lang-Spittler had 34 and Lucas finished the season with 32.
