BATESBURG – The Lady Eagles jumped out to an energetic start Tuesday night on the road against King Academy, but after the bottom half of the first inning, things went downhill for Richard Winn. After a three run first inning, King exploded and shut the Eagles down, 16-5, in five innings.
The first two Eagle batters of the game reached base on a walk. Then Kimmy Albert showed off her wheels and stretched out a three-run in-the-park homer. King answered in the bottom of first with four runs on three singles.
Richard Winn knotted the game back up at four in the top of the second, but King put four runs on the board in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles gave up four hits, walked two batters and allowed five more runs in the bottom of the third.
After King scored three runs in the top of the fourth, the Eagles had one last chance to cut the lead before the mercy rule went effect. They managed to plate one in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough to avoid the five-inning finish.
