WINNSBORO – Mr. Vern F. Amick, 83, of Winnsboro, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018. Born in Prosperity, SC, he was the son of the late Seber Ray and Minnie Amick.
Vern is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia O. Amick; two sons, Brian F. Amick (Tammie) of Sumter, and James V. Amick (JoEllen) of Irmo; one daughter, Lisa Amick Cathcart (Thomas) of Blythewood; brother, Seber Ray Amick of Prosperity; and eight grandchildren, Brian Amick, Jr., LeAnne Amick, Margaret Cathcart, Carter Cathcart, Samuel Cathcart, Christian J. Amick, Colin Amick, and Caelyn Amick.
In addition to his parents, Vern is predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Vern was a 1962 USC graduate, veteran of the Korean War, a Shriner and Mason. His career included service as state director of the U.S. Small Business Administration from 1975-1982, followed by 32 years with the Business Development Corporation as President, Chairman and Chairman Emeritus. He also helped found the Certified Development Corporation as Executive Director. Vern was awarded the Order of the Palmetto in 2004, the state’s highest civilian honor in recognition of his dedicated service to South Carolina. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, 109 W. College Street, Winnsboro, SC conducted by Reverend Julie Belman and Pastor Thomas W Corbell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the committal in the church fellowship hall.
