GEORGETOWN – The Blythewood Bengals headed to Mike Johnson Park for the 28th annual International Paper Baseball Classic and returned to Blythewood with a 2-2 record. The Bengals got off to a rough start and dropped their first game to Boiling Springs 9-4.
They rebounded in a big way on day two. The Bengals blew Georgetown off the map with a 17-1 win. Ben Lang-Spittler, Nic Henderson, Josh Cowan and John Lanier all racked up a multi-hit game.
Lanier had a monster game in Blythewood’s third contest against South Florence. He smashed two long balls, finished 3-3 and racked up seven RBI’s.
Despite a multi-hit performance by Landon Lucas in the Bengals final game against Summerville, Blythewood was ousted 6-2. Harrison Lambert earned IP Classic All-Academic team honors. Lanier and Lang-Spittler were named to IP Classic All-Tournament team.
The Bengals travel to Irmo Friday, March 9 for their second conference matchup with the Yellow Jackets at 7:00. Blythewood will host Lexington High School on Saturday for a conference game at 2:00.
