BATESBURG – The Richard Winn boys saw their girls take care of business against the King Academy Knights on Friday, and when their chance came, they followed suit with another four quarters of total domination. King was outmatched from the very beginning, and the Eagles had no problems taking home a 71-22 win.
The Eagles were clicking on all cylinders in the first quarter. Lane Bickett and Hudson Wade both had four in the opening quarter, and Ethan McManus had five points, including a triple. RWA had 24 at the end of one, and their defense only gave up a single point in the first.
King had 11 times the offensive production in the second quarter, but they still had no answers for the furious Eagle offense. After a 15-11 second quarter in the Eagles’ favor, Richard Winn went to the locker room with a 39-13 lead.
Offensive woes were the theme for King’s second half, and, on the opposite end of the floor, the Eagles scored with ease. The Knights only bucket of the third quarter came from Truman Caughman, and Richard Winn extended their lead to 52-14.
The fourth quarter was just a technicality, but that did not stop the RWA offense from posting 19 more points before time expired. Dru Caldwell lit the Knights up with two daggers from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. McManus also hit from behind the perimeter in the final period.
The win boosted the Eagles final record to 9-12, with 6-4 regional record to boot. The Eagles start post-season action in the Region A-II Tournament this Friday against Newberry Academy.
