WINNSBORO – Richard Winn hosted Laurens Academy on Tuesday for a SCISA Region 1-2A showdown. The Eagles jumped all over the Crusaders early and soared to a 38-33 victory.
Lane Bickett had four points in the first quarter, including a pair of free throws, and Hudson Wade also had four. The big men’s early efforts helped Richard Winn lead a 15-5 charge in the first quarter.
It was a true team effort for the Eagles. They did not have one double-digit scorer, but eight Eagle scored and six players had five or more.
Laurens’ bad fortune carried into the second quarter as the Eagle defense held the Crusaders to just three field-goals. Laurens bricked five of their six free throws in the period. Richard Winn’s offense hit a slump in the second as well, but they held onto a 23-12 lead at half.
After the halftime break, the Crusaders made headway into the lead and redeemed themselves from the free-throw line. They nailed four of their five third quarter opportunities from the stripe.
Noah Edwards dashed Lauren’s fourth quarter hopes with some free throws of his own. He sank four of six from the line down the stretch.
Richard Winn is on the road Friday against Newberry Academy, then back at home next Tuesday in another region game against Anderson Christian.
