Crusaders best Lady Eagles for Region

LAURENS – The Richard Winn Lady Eagles took to Laurens Friday in search of win number 13 on the season, their fourth in a row. Laurens, however, had different plans and upended the Eagles’ winning streak with a 41-20 trouncing. The win was the seventh straight for the Crusaders. They are 19-1 this season and lead RWA by two games in SCISA 1-A.

Richard Winn shot 23 percent from the floor, and their offensive struggles began early and plagued them all game. The Eagles only sunk two buckets in the first quarter, and Gracie Atkerson’s three-pointer was the only Richard Winn score in the second.

Laurens nearly doubled the Eagles’ first half output in the first quarter alone. Ruthie Moore rang up five points in the first and Blaire Quarles had four. The Crusaders, just like the Eagles, struggled to a three-point second.

The Eagles’ nine-point third quarter was by far their best offensive output of the game, but Moore was on fire for the Crusaders. She had 12 points in the third alone and put up five more points in the fourth. Moore outscored the Eagles 26-20 by herself.

Richard Winn was slated for a Tuesday night regional matchup with Wardlaw Academy but the game was canceled due to flu related concerns.
