NEWBERRY – The Lady Griffins of Fairfield Central High School had a tough night on the road and continued to add to their early season woes. Fairfield never managed a lead against the Bulldogs and left Newberry with a 34-61 loss. The best showing for the visitors came in the second quarter when they scored 13 points. They have now been outscored by an eye-popping 132-49.
The Griffins ended last week much like they began this week. The ladies had a rough outing against Westwood, one of the top teams in 4A. They were trounced 71-15 by the Redhawks in Blythewood.
Westwood jumped out to a furious 21-2 run that stretched the entire first quarter and followed it up with a 19-5 second quarter. The Redhawks closed the fourth off in dominating fashion and ended the game on a 20-2 run.
Cristin Gray led the Griffins in scoring in their matchup with Westwood with six points. Lakeyn Boyd had four, and Zariah Rice had three. Unique Drake went off for a double double with 14 points and 10 assists.
Nyah Levetter also exploded for the Redhawks. She rang up first career triple-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and rejected 10 Griffin shots. Mya Belton and Malayziah Etheredge had 11 points each.
