GREENWOOD – The Richard Winn Lady Eagles suffered a tough loss at home in their last contest against Thomas Sumter, but Friday they got a chance to rebound at Greenwood Christian and rebound they did. The Eagles outpaced the Hawks at every turn, and bounced back with a dominant 40-28 victory.
After a quarter of play, the Greenwood defense had contained Richard Winn. The Eagles trailed 8-7 after the first period. Joie Young scored four of the Hawks’ eight first quarter points, and she ended the night with eight points.
The second quarter belonged all to the Eagles. Greenwood sunk just two shots in the second, and by the time the buzzer sounded for halftime, Richard Winn was up 19-13. Meredith Pope, Lydia Wilder and Calee Thigpen had four second quarter points.
Again in the third, Greenwood could not score double digits. They followed the five-point second quarter performance with a meager six-point third quarter. Lydia Wilder added four third-quarter points to her total.
Fueled by Wilder’s four points, the Eagles scored 10 in the third, and led 29-19 going into the final period. Again, Greenwood did not crack double digit scoring in the fourth.
They put up just nine points, and only scored two field goals. Richard Winn scored 11 in the fourth, and they easily put the Hawks away.
