COLUMBIA – The Fairfield Central boys’ basketball squad had a rough run last week. They lost to Swansea, then Newberry and on Friday, they were handed another double digit loss by the Keenan Raiders. The Griffins limped out of the gate against Keenan and fell 43-59.
Fairfield’s offense stalled out early and struggled to put together a seven-point first quarter. Keenan nearly tripled the Griffins’ first quarter output. Raekwon Horton and Ervin Stone outscored the entire Griffins’ lineup in the first.
The Griffins’ offensive woes carried into the second period, but this time they only managed to put up only six points. Xavier Jones scored six for Keenan in the second, and at halftime the Raider lead was 32-13.
Zack Sease went off for the Griffins in the second half. He nearly matched Fairfield’s first half output with his 11-point third quarter. Unfortunately for Fairfield, Sease was the only player to find a rhythm, and aside from Sease’s buckets, they only scored two-field goals.
Sease was second amongst Griffins scorers with his 11 points. Will Barber led Fairfield in scoring with 14. Keenan’s Horton and Stone were tied for the game high with 15 points, and Jones had a solid 11-point performance.
The fourth quarter was all but a technicality. The Raider’s 17-point lead going into the fourth was too much for the Griffins to overcome.
