This past week I had the pleasure of driving through northwest Georgia and eastern Tennessee. The mountains were simply spectacular to see! They were absolutely majestic!
When I view nature like this I am always reminded of the words of Psalm (19:1-3): “The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.”
David the psalmist is telling us that by viewing nature we can see that there is indeed a God, a God who is powerful and purposeful. David knew and we should remember that this world did not happen by some cosmological accident. The perfect order and beauty of nature tell us there must have been a Designer and a Creator of the world in which we live!
As a matter of fact the apostle Paul tells us that seeing what has been created is evidence of the existence of God. In Romans (1:20,21) Paul writes, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”
Sadly, many refuse to look at the perfect order and beauty of nature and acknowledge there is a Designer and Creator of all things. Paul says the thoughts of these individuals are futile and their hearts are both foolish and darkened.
Surely it is much more advantageous for us to accept the evidence God has given us of His existence in that which He has created rather than to reject this evidence and in turn deny Him. So the next time you see the mountains, the beach, a sunset, a sunrise, an eclipse or any other evidence of God’s existence found in nature, embrace the beauty you are beholding and determine in your heart you will honor the One who has made it all!
