To me, one of the best holidays of the year is Mother’s Day. I have been truly blessed with a mother who is loving, caring, kind, and compassionate. She has always been one of my greatest supporters and has stood by me even when things weren’t going so well. In addition, I have also been blessed with a wonderful mother for my children. My wife has been such a powerful influence for good for our children. She has loved them, nurtured them, cared for them, and encouraged them throughout their lives. My two children are blessed to have such a good mother, and I am blessed to have her as a part of my life.
If you have been blessed with a great mother like I have, it is my hope you will do something special for her this Sunday. She deserves every kind and loving gesture you can show her.
Sadly, for some, their mother has passed from this life to the next. If this is the case, it is my hope you will say a prayer of thanksgiving to God for the influence for good she has had on your life and also do something special that would honor her memory.
Truly, God displayed great wisdom in giving the world mothers. He even instructed us that our well being as a person is related to how much we are willing to show respect to our mother. This is revealed to us in Solomon’s words in Proverbs (6:20-23): “My son, keep your father’s command, and do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you. For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” God even gives a warning to those who would not respect their mother. Again, Solomon writes in Proverbs (20:20): “Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in deep darkness.”
Because mothers are a wonderful gift from God, let’s be sure to honor them in a special way this Sunday on Mother’s Day. Doing so will please them and God too!
