My precious wife Kim just went into surgery. This was a moment in life when we both definitely wanted to make sure we sought God’s blessing in prayer prior to her procedure. It was a circumstance in which we needed God’s assurance and assistance.
With this said, as Christians we need to make sure we don’t seek out God merely in what we consider to be the important or challenging moments of life. We should also seek Him in the ordinary and mundane moments. The fact of the matter is, we all need God every hour of every day.
The reason why we need God every hour of every day is because the Bible tells us it is not within ourselves to direct our own steps in life. Jeremiah the prophet speaks to this matter in Jeremiah (10:23): “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.”
The writer Solomon speaks to how we can make sure we seek God every hour of every day thus giving Him the opportunity to direct our steps. He writes in Proverbs (3:5,6): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
The key to a close relationship with God is to trust Him with all our heart and to acknowledge Him in all our ways. In order to do this, we must lean upon Him in every moment and in every circumstance in life. When we choose to trust God with all our heart and acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will lead us not only in the path we need to go, but he will also provide us with all our needs along the way.
Oh wait a minute. Excuse me if you will while I talk with the doctor… Good news! The doctor just told me everything went well with my wife’s procedure. Praise be to God for his assurance and assistance! Truly, we need the Lord every hour of every day.
