It has been seven months since I and three other ladies found a horrific sight while horseback riding at Carolina Adventure World. When I stumbled upon a severely mangled puppy, my mind was racing, wondering what had happened to this poor creature. Never in a million years would I have guessed that he had been dragged behind a vehicle. I would like to thank Dr. Robert Knight and his wife Susan who answered a knock on their door on a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to their many hours of dedicated care and numerous surgeries, Emanuel has made a wonderful recovery and has been adopted by a loving family.
I would also like to extend my thanks to The Hoof and Paw Society who raised $1,500 to be used as a reward for information leading up to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this crime. Mission accomplished. The person responsible for this crime confessed and accepted a plea bargain for a misdemeanor rather than the felony charge of cruelty to animals. I am grateful that Judge Brian Gibbons takes these matters seriously and imposed the maximum penalty he was allowed under the circumstances.
I would be remiss if I did not thank The Voice for reporting this story. I am in hopes that it creates awareness that there is an animal control problem in Fairfield County and that cruelty to animals is a crime punishable by law.
