WINNSBORO (Feb. 10, 2016) – On senior night Tuesday, the Lady Griffins (15-5, 9-2) wanted make sure their four seniors enjoyed their final game in the Griffins’ Den. Fairfield Central did just that, routing the Mid-Carolina Rebels 54-22.
“We played a good game tonight on both ends of the floor,” Fairfield Central head coach Amelia Miller said. “I am so proud of my seniors and I am happy I could send them out with a great win in their last home game.”
Senior Tanise Davis led the way, scoring 11 of her 17 points in the first half as the Lady Griffins outscored Mid-Carolina 27-6 in the opening frame. Despite a slow start by the Lady Griffins, who scored only 10 points in the first quarter, Davis jumped out of the gate in the second quarter, dumping in 9 quick points. A 3-pointer by senior Chyna Moore paved the way to a 12-0 run as Fairfield Central went into halftime up 27-6.
“Our runs in the first and second half keyed our win tonight,” Miller said. “Despite missing a bunch of shots tonight, our defense still allowed us to continue our dominance on the court.”
Jameka Henderson scored 6 points in the third quarter to continue the Lady Griffins’ run as they outscored the Lady Rebels 16-4 in the period. Fairfield Central outscored the Lady Rebels 27-16 in the second half, despite Mid-Carolina outscoring Fairfield Central 12-11 to end the game.
“We needed to continue our nine-game win streak to remain a half game behind Keenan as we prepare to face them for the region crown,” Moore said. “I believe we are more prepared to avenge our earlier loss to them.”
The Lady Griffins host Keenan in the key final game of the regular season Friday night.
