LEXINGTON – The Lady Bengals golf team finished their season by placing 12th in the state tournament Tuesday, their best finish since 2010.
The tournament was a 36-hole, two-day competition held at the Country Club of Lexington. Freshman Parker Stalvey led the team with an 8-over 80 on day one, while seventh-grader Mary Kathryn Talledo had the best score on day two, shooting an 82 in the cold, windy and rainy conditions. Stalvey’s two-day total of 164 (+20) was tops on the team. Other particularly notable rounds included eighth-grader Lindsey Hoile’s 90 and sophomore Madelyn Richards’s 94, both on day one.
After losing two key seniors from last year’s team, Blythewood had a very young team this year, relying primarily on two sophomores, a freshman and three middle schoolers. However, the team did not let its youth interfere with its solid performance all season, as they finished 14-1 in matches and captured the Region IV-4A championship.
