BLYTHEWOOD – William “Bill” Foster Snellgrove, 74, of Blythewood, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015. Born in Port St. Joe, Fla. on June 22, 1941, he was the son of the late William Young Snellgrove and Susie Foster Snellgrove.
Bill graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus, Ga. and attended Auburn University. His professional career included 35 years with Blue Cross-Blue Shield that took his family to three states and achieved the position of Senior Executive Vice President. Subsequently, Bill spent the final 10 years of his career as Marketing Director at Moore Orthopedic Clinic. Bill found his greatest joy in retirement. He loved God and he loved his family. Bill was at his best serving those in need, especially the hungry in his community. He was a volunteer at Cooperative Ministries in Blythewood and could be found many times transporting others to cancer treatments and dialysis. His love of God’s Word shown through as he led Disciple Bible Study classes for six years at Trinity UMC in Blythewood. Family dinners, especially BBQ, were a highlight. He loved riding his John Deer around the yard with a grandchild in his lap or boiling peanuts for the whole family.
Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 53 years, Delores Jones Snellgrove; their three sons, Gregory “Greg” Scott Snellgrove of Cumming, Ga., William “Will” Howard Snellgrove of Fort Mill, S.C. and Matthew “Matt” Foster Snellgrove of Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren, Scott, William, Lauren, Cameron and Riley Snellgrove; four nieces and two nephews. He has joined grandson, Evan Snellgrove, in Heaven. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by sisters, Janice McLure, Joan Carr and Patricia Richards.
The funeral service for Mr. Snellgrove will be held 1 o’clock, Thursday, Sept. 17, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 90 Boney Road, Blythewood, with the Rev. C. Nels Ledwell officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, 408 Blythewood Road. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock, Wednesday evening, at Trinity United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
