BLYTHEWOOD – Wins have been fewer than the Lady Redhawks would like in this rebuilding year for the volleyball team. The team added one to their win column Monday night when they sent the Lady Bearcats of Brookland-Cayce High School home without a set to their credit. Westwood won the match in straight sets, 25-19, 25-13 and 25-15.
Except early on in the first set, the Lady Redhawks never trailed the Lady Bearcats on the scoreboard. Westwood kept their errors to a minimum and offensively, Jaida Carter led the way with some crashing hits that were too much for the Bearcat defenders. Carter had 15 kills to her credit, one less kill than the entire B-C team. Defensively, Libero Madison Oxendine dug some nearly impossible shots, which boosted morale and helped keep control of the match. Oxendine led the team with 8 digs.
The win brings the Lady Redhawks’ record to 5-11-1 so far this year. Tonight’s win is their second win at home against B-C. On the road, Westwood lost to B-C, 3-1.
Westwood traveled to Spring Valley Tuesday and host Lugoff-Elgin Thursday. Next Tuesday, the Lady Redhawks are at Blythewood.
