WINNSBORO – The Richard Winn Academy boys’ basketball team (3-3) dropped a bomb Tuesday night as they were dismantled by the Patriots of York Prep, 84-38.
York Prep Academy’s Tracus Chisholm led a dominating performance for the Patriots as their athleticism overmatched the Eagles of Richard Winn. Chisholm’s play on both ends of the court fueled the Patriots strong full-court pressure to begin the game. The Patriots took control of the game off the opening tip as they ran early and often to pile a heap of fast-break points to jump out to an opening 8-0 run in the early stages of the first quarter.
The Eagles were no match for the Patriots’ full-court pressure or the Patriots half-court trap as the Eagles were forced into numerous turnovers. Chisholm continued his play in the first half by scoring on fast-break points after the Eagles took poor shots on their offensive side of the court. Richard Winn’s struggles on offense led to a big 44-14 halftime deficit.
In the second half Chisholm continued his excellent play on both sides of the court continuing to push the Patriots’ pure dominance over the Eagles who had no response to the Patriots’ game plan on the offensive or defensive side of the court. The Patriots backcourt was the driving force for their spectacular play as Chisholm and Josh Nork combined for 47 points to help end the Eagles by the midway point of the second half.
Chisholm led all scorers with 29 points as Nork contributed with 18 points to lead the Patriots as they had four players in double figures. Mitchell Gibbons led the Eagles of Richard Winn with 12 points and Cameron Cooper contributed with 10 points. The Eagles travel to Chesnee on Friday, looking to bounce back.
