WINNSBORO – The Richard Winn Academy girls’ basketball team (7-0) continued their hot start into this early part of the basketball season with a dominating 62-17 win over York Prep Academy Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles jumped out on the Lady Patriots by feeding Jaycie Johnson early and often to create a dominant force the Lady Pat’s had no answer to. The Eagles full-court pressure on defense allowed them to control the pace of the game, to which York Prep never found a clear-cut response as the pressure kept their offense out of synch throughout the course of the game.
The Lady Eagles started the game on a 29-0 run as they dominated the post play with their height advantage over the Lady Patriots throughout the first half.
The second half began as the first half did as the Lady Eagles continued to feed Johnson as she destroyed the Lady Patriots’ defense. York Prep continued to struggle with the Lady Eagles full-court pressure never getting a chance to set any offensive plays in their half-court sets. Richard Winn continued their fast pace intensity on both ends of the court until midway into the fourth quarter as they would calm the full court press down with the game well in hand.
Johnson led the overall scoring with 25 points as Jessie Stidham was the only other player in double figures with 11 points. The Lady Eagles look to continue their hot start as they travel to Chesnee Friday.
