WINNSBORO- The Richard Winn Academy boys’ basketball team (2-6, 0-1) opened region play Friday with a tough loss to Anderson Christian, 57-46.
Despite a great game by Cameron Cooper, Richard Winn could not stop Anderson Christian’s overall ball movement. In the first half Richard Winn shot an amazing field goal percentage, which led to them shooting over 60 percent for the game. Nevertheless, Richard Winn could not muster enough attempts to counteract Anderson Christian’s offense.
Cooper kept the game close with a big scoring output in the second quarter, which led to Richard Winn ending the quarter on a run to cut the Lions’ lead to 29-27 at the half.
The second half began with Richard Winn struggling to muster any offensive production. Anderson Christian slowed down Cooper and Richard Winn’s high field goal percentage. Richard Winn only generated 5 points in the third quarter as Anderson Christian began a run that would give them a lead that RWA could not overcome.
Cooper heated up again in the fourth quarter and the Eagles went on a tear, but the Lions managed to keep their lead over 10 points to come out victorious.
Cooper was the top scorer for both teams with 32 points. Anderson Christian had four players in double figures to lead their assault.
The Eagles return to action on Dec. 29 as they host the Booster Club Christmas Tournament.
