Robert C. Caldwell Sr.

WINNSBORO – Robert C. Caldwell Sr., 98, of Winnsboro passed away on Nov. 23, 2014. Born June 17, 1916, in the Rossville Section of Chester County, he was a Master Mason and a member of the Winnsboro Lions Club. He was the son of James S.H. and Willie McMeekin Caldwell, and was a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

His working life was in the electric utility sector and he began his career in 1938 with Bridges Construction Company building some of the very first lines for Berkeley Electric Cooperative and then spent two years in North Carolina constructing lines for cooperatives there. He retired from Fairfield Electric Cooperative after 39 years of service where he served as Line Superintendent.

While in North Carolina he met and married Margaret Daniel of Mocksville. They had four children, a daughter Dale Mann (Tommy) of Edisto Beach and sons Bobby (Bobbie), Johnny (Cheryl) and Danny (Lily) all of Winnsboro. Margaret passed away in 2001. He had eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived by a brother, Marion, of Caldwell Crossroad, and was predeceased by two brothers, Joe and Raymond, and three sisters, Florrie Watkins, Martha Heath Dixon and Mary Horton.

A funeral service will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow immediately in the church cemetery. The Rev. Doug Chambers will officiate. The church address is 2338 Ross Dye Road, Great Falls, S.C. 29055. His grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, Bobby Caldwell, 6394 Newberry Road, Winnsboro, S.C. 29180, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richard Winn Academy at P.O. Box 390, Winnsboro, S.C. 29180 or Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery Association.

The family would like to take this opportunity to extend its warmest and heartfelt “Thank You” to his family at Fairfield Memorial Hospital for the loving care offered to Dad during his extended stay there. We love you all.
