COLUMBIA – The Blythewood boys’ cross country team capped the best season in school history by placing fourth at the 4A State Championship meet on Saturday. In addition to being a school-best finish at the State Meet, the fourth-place finish was the top result for a Midlands area team this year.
Leading the way for the boys was senior James Palmer, who finished 17th overall in a time of 16 minutes and 15 seconds. The rest of the Bengal runners were TJ Kirby (26th, 16:29), Amir McCall (57th, 16:53), Brandon Hardwick (69th, 17:02), Caleb Wilson (72nd, 17:04), Tanner Cierzan (90th,17:22) and Devin Lowry (101st, 17:33). In addition to the great team finish, two Bengals also earned top individual honors, as both James Palmer and TJ Kirby were selected for the S.C. Shrine Bowl All-Star team.
