This week my profession lost a great role model. Linda Gladden Shirley was truly an example of what a professional dental hygienist should be. Three decades ago, when she and I were in college learning to practice dental hygiene, it was drilled in our heads that the patient always comes first. Strong, unrelenting work ethics were the order of the day, and Linda modeled this for over 30 years.
Our community recognized her professionalism, wit, compassion and especially her teamwork as a dedicated member of Dr. Phillip Wilkins’ dental staff. Her team certainly rallied around her during her decline in health and the cancer that finally claimed her time here. Linda faced each obstacle with a smile on her face and a strong constitution characteristic of the faith she lived and the servanthood she practiced. She will be sorely missed by her patients and her Team Linda family.
Godspeed our beloved friend and colleague to her heavenly reward. Linda, you left us too soon and too fast, but we cherish the memories and salute your service.
