Gunmen Raid Business

RIDGEWAY – For the second time in 18 months, the Dollar General store at 28 N. Dogwood Ave. was knocked off by armed bandits. Monday night, two masked men stormed into the Ridgeway business, holding employees at gunpoint while making away with $990 in cash from the safe and registers, as well as several cartons of Newport cigarettes valued at $174.

According to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects entered the business at approximately 9:38 p.m. Monday. Both were described as black males, with one suspect speaking with a stutter and wearing a white T-shirt and red shoes, and the second suspect wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and light-blue jeans. Both were armed with handguns. The suspects took two Dollar General bags from a rack at the front of the store and stuffed them with the cash and cigarettes before running from the store and disappearing around the side of the building. A bloodhound unit was called to the scene, but failed to pick up a trail, the Sheriff’s Office said.

In October of 2013, two men armed with shotguns terrorized customers and employees while robbing the store of $650 in cash. The Sheriff’s Office said the two incidents are not believed to be related.
