BLYTHEWOOD – The Town of Blythewood and Blythewood High School will host the fourth-annual South Carolina Diamond Invitational Wednesday, April 16 to Saturday, April 19 with the Championship Game being played on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The four-day high school baseball tournament will welcome some of the top teams and players from the Southeast to Blythewood.
In four short years, the South Carolina Diamond Invitational has become a destination for some of the top teams and players in the Southeast. Five of the eight teams in the 2013 tournament won District Championships in the playoffs last year and another team captured a private school state championship. This year’s tournament will once again feature some of the top teams in the state of South Carolina currently ranked in the latest South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association poll, including Greenville Senior High Academy (ranked #2 in 3A), Wren High School (Ranked #3 in current 3A poll), Belton-Honea Path High School (ranked #5 in 3A), Blythewood High School (ranked #4 in 4A and last year’s tournament champions), West Ashley High School (ranked #5 in 4A) , and Mauldin High School (ranked #6 in 4A). River Bluff High School and Spring Valley High School will also take part in this year’s tournament.
In addition to the great teams in action, there also will be many great players in this year’s tournament, including commitments to schools such as the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, The Citadel, the College of Charleston, Furman University, University of South Carolina at Lancaster, Charleston Southern, Newberry College, and Spartanburg Methodist College. In addition to the outstanding baseball commitments, this year’s teams feature a player who has committed to Appalachian State University to play football and a player who has accepted an appointment the United States Military Academy at West Point.
