Born in Fiesch im Wallis in Switzerland, she was the daughter of Alfred Volken and Emma Burgener Volken.
Lily came to America in 1980. She lived in Washington, Minneapolis and moved to Winnsboro in 2000. She loved to work in her garden and shared her love of gardening with many. Her garden was her pride and joy. She loved to travel (she climbed the Matterhorn). She and her husband, who was a pilot, have flown to every state except Hawaii. She eventually traveled to Hawaii with a group of friends from Winnsboro with whom she traveled frequently.
She worked at the University of Minneapolis teaching knitting, crochet and hand crafts. She taught and judged various knitting, crochet, cross stitch, beading, tatting, hardanger and other stitchery and loved to share her talents with others. She has always been a volunteer with various community organizations. She has many friends here and throughout the United States and will be greatly missed.
She was a member of the Lions Club, Red Hat Society, Friday Night Live and the Fairfield County Historical Society.
The family would like to thank the many friends of Lily that have helped and a special thanks to Jane Boyter and Nancy Frazier for the use of their IPads that allowed communication with Lily’s sister Anny, during this time.
Memorials may be made to The American Red Cross, P.O. Box 314, Winnsboro, S.C. 29180.
