WINNSBORO – A memorial service celebrating the life of Berry Bonds, 72, of Winnsboro, S.C., will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro. Members of the United States Air National guard will serve as pallbearers as well as members of the Mt. Zion 1958 State Championship football team.
Born on Jan. 9, 1941, Berry was the son of the late K.C. and Mary Louise Berry Bonds.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the Methodist Men’s Club and was retired from South Carolina Air National Guard. He was a member of the Fairfield Jaycees and a faithful blood donor to the American Red Cross. Always known for telling jokes and sharing tricks, Berry never met a stranger.
Berry and his wife, Marcia Hite Bonds, were married in April, 1968, and have a son Brian Berry Bonds (Beth) of Winnsboro and a daughter MaryPaul Bonds Hoile (Brian) of Blythewood. He enjoyed time with their four grandchildren Lindsey Chapman Hoile, Douglass Berry Bonds, Ashlee Louise Hoile and Charles Milton Bonds.
He is also survived by brothers Perry Bonds, Weldon Bonds (Lillian), Donald Bonds (Judy) and Richard Bonds (Gail), and one sister, Willie Mae Bonds Price, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and one great-great nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 109 College St. Winnsboro, S.C. 29180 and the American Red Cross, 2751 Bull St. Columbia, S.C. 29230.
