The last home competition for the Gamecock Equestrian team this season means Equi-Fest, the family fun day that the Blythewood community has come to anticipate. The competition begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday when the Gamecocks face off against No. 6 Texas A & M. The Equi-Fest activities begin at 12:30 p.m. and will run until the end of the afternoon meet.
“The girls are really looking forward to Equi-Fest on Saturday and we’re expecting it to be a great afternoon,” S.C. head coach and Blythewood native Boo Major said. “We have a great lineup of events and activities for kids, and everything is free, so we hope to have a great turnout. Equi-Fest is always our biggest home event of the year, and we’re excited to put on a fun afternoon right here in Blythewood for our fans.”
Saturday’s meet will be Texas A&M’s first trip to Blythewood since Jan. 31, 2009, when then-No. 7 South Carolina upset the second-ranked Aggies, 13-7. South Carolina and Texas A&M last met on Nov. 16 at the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan, Texas, where the Gamecocks dropped the Aggies 11-8. The Gamecocks are currently 4-2 this season, including a 3-0 mark in Southeastern Conference play.
Activity stations for the kids include cowboy hat decorating, stick pony construction, horseshoe decorating, poster making, face tattoos, bouncehouse and visits with Cocky.
Admission, parking and all the activities are free. The competitions are held at the Gamecock’s Blythewood training and competition facility, One Wood Farm, at 1201 Syrup Mill Road.
