Three Fairfield Central High School football Griffins, and the head Griffin himself – head coach Demetrius Davis – were honored Saturday at the annual High School Sports Report All-State Banquet at Seawell’s in Columbia. Along with the head coach, the Charleston prep sports publication honored seniors Raheim McDaniel and Dexter Finch, and junior DeAndre Belton, who together helped lead the Griffins to the Class 2A state title game last season.
McDaniel, a defensive end and linebacker for the Griffins, was named the 2012 Class 2A/Division 1 Defensive Player of the Year. Finch, a lineman on both sides of the ball, was named to the 2012 S.C. High School League Class 2A/Division 1 All-State team. Belton, the Griffins’ electrifying run-and-shoot quarterback, was also named to the Class 2A/Division 1 All-State team. Davis, wrapping up his second season as head coach for the Griffins, was named the Class 2A Region III Coach of the Year.
