The Blythewood (4-6) boys’ basketball team fell on the road to the Bearcats of Rock Hill (5-1) Saturday night, 100-77. Rock Hill is a senior-laden team with 10 seniors on the roster and five players at 6-foot 4-inches or taller. Blythewood has just one player at 6-foot 4-inches. With that in mind, Bengals head coach ZekeWashingtonknew his post players would have their work cut out for them.
“Rock Hill is a very physical and well coached team,” he said. “They control the tempo of the game and use their size to pound the glass.”
Early in the game Blythewood led 4-3, but Rock Hill went on an 11-0 run and would have the Bengals playing from behind for the rest of the game. At the half Blythewood cut it to a 10-point deficit, at 43-33. To start the third quarter the Bengals used a 12-7 run to climb to within five, but that’s as close as they would get with Rock Hill going on a 19-2 run to take a commanding lead going into the fourth quarter at 71-55. Blythewood junior Kenny McCray tied a season high with 21 points and senior Raheen Jackson set a new season high with 18.
Blythewood will try to rebound against their cross town rivals, Westwood, on Tuesday. The Bengals will be looking to avenge an earlier loss at Westwood, 65-59 back on Dec. 8.
