Tuesday night the Lady Bengals basketball team (3-1) made their home debut of the 2012-2013 season with a 58-46 win over Lancaster. Blythewood led by as many as 18 in the first half but thanks to a 9-0 run to end the first half and then a 9-0 run to start the second half, Lancaster tied the score at 33 halfway through the third quarter. After the game Lady Bengals head coach Steve Inabinet said she was impressed by the comeback Lancaster mounted.
“We thought we had the game in hand,” Inabinet said. “But basketball is a game of runs.”
The fourth quarter was all Blythewood as they increased the pressure and controlled the pace by going on a 7-0 run and then a 7-1 run.
“We were able to change the tempo and get them off balance,” Inabinet said.
Aaliyah Keels led the way for the Lady Bengals with 21 points and six rebounds. Kierra Brown and Breelyn Blanding also cracked double digits with 16 and 13 respectively. On Thursday Blythewood will host the defending state champions, Dutch Fork, with tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.
