Opening Act
Aug. 24 – vs. Westwood High School.
Damien Bell rushed for 132 yards and DeAndre Belton for 166 as the Griffins spoiled the Redhawks’ debut, 34-7.
Aug. 32 – at Abbeville High School
DeAndre Belton rushed for 114 yards, but Damien Bell was held to 31 in what was the Griffins’ poorest showing of the season. Five first-half turnovers doomed the Griffins, who fell 30-7.
Sept. 7 – at Chester High School
The Griffins were held to only 192 total rushing yards by the Cyclone defense, but still managed to put away their rivals, 18-7.
Sept. 14 – Union County
In a classic shoot-out, Damien Bell rushed for four TDs and 155 yards, Belton for 173 and Larry G. Bell for 56, but it was the Yellow Jackets who had the last laugh, 42-40.
Sept. 21 – at Cheraw High School
An 80-yard pick-6 by Devontae Foster turned the tide for the Griffins. Damien Bell rushed for three TDs and DeAndre Belton threw for two more as the Griffins trounced the Braves, 42-8.
Region III
Sept. 28 – at Columbia High School
DeAndre Belton grooved the Capitals for 215 yards in the air, throwing four TDs to lead the Griffins to their first region win, 38-19.
Oct. 5 – Eau Claire High School
Damien Bell rushed for 109 yards while DeAndre Belton threw a pair of TDs in a homecoming rout of the Shamrocks, 54-0.
Oct. 12 – at Keenan High School
DeAndre Belton tossed four TDs and rushed for 176 yards against the up-and-coming Raiders en route to a 42-18 region win.
Oct. 19 – Pelion High School
It was homecoming for former Griffin head coach Ben Freeman, but the night belonged to Fairfield Central. Damien Bell rushed for two TDs on 115 yards, while DeAndre Belton threw for 162 yards in the 56-0 win.
Oct. 26 – North Central High School
Damien Bell rushed for two TDs and caught another, while DeAndre Belton and Larry G. Bell each also rushed for a score. Belton was also 11 of 14 passing for 179 yards in the 57-6 win, which sealed a perfect region record for the Griffins.
The Playoffs
Nov. 9 – Crescent High School
After earning a bye in round one, the Griffins made short work of the Tigers. Damien Bell rushed for 127 yards and three TDs as the Griffins advanced, 50-0.
Nov. 16 – Cheraw High School
In a rematch of week five, the Griffins had their hands full. Larry G. Bell rushed for one TD and caught another, while Damien Bell ran for 92 yards and one TD, disposing of the Braves a second time in 2012, 27-10.
Nov. 23 – Newberry
The Bulldogs pushed the Griffins to the brink in what was the biggest game in Fairfield County in 15 years. DeAndre Belton blistered the ‘Dogs for 260 yards passing, hitting Kewaun Squirewell for two critical touchdown strikes. Still, the Griffins needed overtime to dispatch the Bulldogs, and Damien Bell’s 1-yard run in the extra frame launched Fairfield into the title game, 28-21.
