RIDGEWAY: Graveside services for Leroy Smith, age 83, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at Fairfield Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday evening at Pope Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at Fairfield Healthcare. He was the husband of Doris I. Smith and the son of the late William and Flona Reynolds Smith. He was born in Newberry County on Jan. 9, 1929. Mr. Smith was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #11 and a veteran of the U.S. National Guard. He worked as a shipping and receiving manager at Manhattan Shirt Company.
In addition to his wife Doris, Mr. Smith is survived by four sons, Jerry Smith, Gary Smith, Larry Blease Smith, John Wayne Smith; one step-son, James Whitman Jr.; three step-daughters, Gloria Herring, Miriam Humphries, Donna McFadden; one brother, William Smith Jr.; two sisters, Hazel Christensen, Doris Branham; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is the mother of his sons, Elease Bowers.
Pope Funeral Home is serving the Smith family.
