The Blythewood Lady Bengals volleyball team stayed undefeated (8-0) in region play Tuesday night, beating Lugoff-Elgin three games to one (25-21, 25-12, 22-25 and 25-17) to run their overall record to 33-5. The win was even sweeter because it was on their “Dig Pink Night,” which is an event to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. The Lady Bengals wore pink shirts, sweatbands and socks to honor the cause. After the game Blythewood head coach Mary Hall talked about how successful the night was, giving a lot of credit to the Lady Bengal’s parents.
“I was very proud of the parents,” Hall said. “They put the event together to raise funds and donated baked goods.”
Blythewood was led in attacking by Meredith Jones and Abreia Epps with 19 and 13 kills respectively. Gabby Martinez had team highs in aces (4), assists (39) and digs (13).
Thursday night the Lady Bengals host Irmo for Senior Night.
“It’s going to be a very emotional night,” Hall said. “I’m losing a great group of girls.”
First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Blythewood high school.
