The Blythewood boys’ cross country team finished third in the region championships last week. It is the highest finish for the Bengals in school history since moving up to 4A. Blythewood head coach Patrick Kelly is proud of his team’s effort.
“They (Blythewood) turned in some great performances,” Kelly said.
Blythewood junior Mike Lantz finished in first place overall with a time of 15:55. Other top runners for Blythewood included Thomas Whiddon (17:43), T.J. Kirby (17:45), Brandon Hardwick (18:29) and Hunter Jarvis (18:29).
Blythewood Lady Bengals cross country team finished third in the region championship as well. Blythewood was led by Aleah Wilson, who finished third overall, and earned a spot on the All-Region team. The next top runner for Blythewood was Kendra Burkhardt with a personal best (22:04) on the Sandhills course.
The next meet for both teams is Saturday when compete at the Mid-State qualifier. The girls run at 9 a.m. and the boys will run at 9:30 a.m. In order to qualify for the State Meet the team must finish in the top eight or an individual can qualify by finishing in the top 20.
