The Blythewood volleyball team has picked up right where they left off. After having their 15 game win streak broken by Hanna on Sept. 8, the Lady Bengals have started a new streak, winning their last five in a row, including a Sept. 20 win over Lugoff-Elgin on their home court, 3-1. Tuesday night, they swept Irmo 3-0 (25-19, 25-7 and 25-15) and improved their record to 4-0 in region play. Blythewood’s overall record is 20-2 and has earned them a number two ranking in class 4A. Head coach Mary Hall said she looks forward to the opportunity to earn the top spot.
Against Irmo the Lady Bengals were led in attacking by Meredith Jones, who had 14 kills. Jones also had a team high four aces. Gabby Martinez was near perfect with a game high 42 assists and just one error. Defensively, Dominique Williams and Abreia Epps had three blocks each and Di’Ahrah Hall added six digs.
Blythewood plays tonight, hosting Ridge View at 7 p.m.
“We will show up and put on a show,” she said. “Hopefully after the game we will be 5-0 in the region and I’m not settling for anything less.”
