Ridgeway: Funeral services for Sarah B. Hendrix Newman, age 71, were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at El Bethel Community Faith Church, Lugoff. Burial followed in the Longtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday evening at Pope Funeral Home.
Mrs. Newman died on July 12, 2012 at Providence Hospital Northeast. She was born in Greenville, S.C. on June 17, 1941, the daughter of the late Oliver Wendell Hendrix Sr. and Ena Morgan Hendrix. Mrs. Newman was raised in the Pentecostal Holiness Church and worked in the textile industry. Gifted with a beautiful voice, she was a singer and songwriter, a loving mother and friend. She adored her children, grandchildren and family.
Mrs. Newman is survived by a son, Tony Newman of Lugoff; four daughters, Pam Jeffers and her husband Jerry of Elgin, Sherry Cannella of Blythewood, Sonya Newman of Lugoff, Hope McFadden of Ridgeway; five brothers, Buddy Hendrix, Wendell Hendrix, Mackey Hendrix, Jackey Hendrix, David Hendrix; five sisters, Judy Rollison, Linda Chasteen, Sylvia Crolley, Mary Crolley, Katie Olsen; 10 grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Newman was predeceased by a son, Larry Newman Jr.; a brother, Oliver Hendrix Jr. and a son-in-law, Lindsey McFadden.
