Blythewood cowgirl Anna Leigh Weiland, 14, an eighth-grader at Muller Middle School, returned from the National Rodeo Junior High Championships in Gallup, N.M. this week.
Shown riding her 17-year-old quarter horse, Jewelie, in the competition, Anna Leigh finished the first round in 17 seconds to place 30th out of 154 contestants.
Later during the week she cut almost 2 seconds off her time and finished her first national competition ranked 53rd out of 154. Next, she will compete in the National Barrel Horse Association Youth World championships competition to be held July 22-28 in Perry, Ga.
