Winnsboro: Funeral services for Leon McCants Park, age 77, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Union Memorial Presbyterian Church PCA, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Igou Hodges. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Pope Funeral Home. Mr. Park went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 23, 2012, after a battle with Parkinson’s and cancer. Son of the late George Robertson Park and Leona Conrad Park, he was born Feb. 8, 1935, in Winnsboro, S.C. He graduated from Clemson College in 1958 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He worked as an engineer in White Sands, N.M.; Charlotte, N.C. and Simpsonville, S.C. After returning to Winnsboro, he worked for Glenn Associates in Jenkinsville, S.C.
Always an active member of his church, Mr. Park served as a deacon of Second Presbyterian Church in Greenville. He was a charter member and elder of Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church in Simpsonville and an elder of Union Memorial Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro. His hobby was ham radio, and his call sign was N4LKX. He helped teach reading with the Literary Association in Greenville and was a member of the Lions Club in Winnsboro. Leon will be remembered for his love of missions and education, and for his sense of humor.
Mr. Park is survived by two sons, Charles A. Park of Simpsonville and George Park (Shana) of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Laura P. Dye (Roger) of Viña del Mar, Chile, and Jennifer P. Forshey (Brian) of Varnville; one sister, Margaret Sanders; and one brother, Francis Park (Brenda). Also surviving are seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Deanna Park; two brothers, George Park Jr. and Robert Park; and one granddaughter.
