BLYTHEWOOD (Dec. 7, 2016) – Westwood (2-1) continued their strong start to the season defeating Spring Valley (0-3) 66-55 Tuesday night.

“I was a bit concerned about our guys tonight against their height and strength tonight,” Westwood head coach Jeff DiBattisto said. “We don’t have a lot of big guys on our team so we have to keep a fast tempo to catch teams off guard.”

The Redhawks did just that, jumping out to an early 10-point lead to start the game. Sloppy play on both sides of the court resulted in a slim 19-13 lead for the Redhawks after one. Westwood’s Russell Jones and Cameron Wormancer both led the way with 14 points as they helped the Redhawks jump back to a 10 point lead in the second quarter. Despite strong showings from Jones and Wormancer, the Spring Valley Vikings continued to chisel away at the Redhawk lead, cutting it to 7 points at the half, 33-26.

Westwood started the third quarter on a 7-0 run trying to kill the will of Spring Valley. Despite Spring Valley’s effort to continue to cut into the lead, turnovers and fouls curtailed their rally. Going into the fourth quarter, a big technical foul call on DiBattisto led to a 7 point swing, cutting the deficit down to 3 points in the fourth quarter.

After the technical foul Westwood went on a 8-0 run to help seal the win over Spring Valley, 66-55.
