Gullah Culture –

Miss Kitty copy

Miss Kitty (Wilson Evans), a member of Historic Columbia, was a presenter at the Arts on the Ridge festival in Ridgeway, May 5-6. A former teacher who is regionally well-known for her performances as Kessie, a slave girl during the 1800s, Miss Kitty displayed at the festival a number of hand-made items that were staples in the early Gullah culture in the low country.
