WINNSBORO (Feb. 3, 2016) – The Lady Griffins (13-5 7-2) only needed one half to gain an easy win Tuesday night. Running up a 43-8 lead at halftime, the Lady Griffins finished the Shamrocks of Eau Claire, 57-27.
“I love how we have been improving every game and our improvements are helping us stay close within the region championship,” Fairfield Central head coach Amelia Miller said.
Fairfield’s fast start in the first quarter was led by Jameka Henderson and Tanise Davis who had 6 points each in the opening round boosting the Lady Griffins to a 19-3 lead.
“Jameka and Tanise helped jump-start our game tonight. I felt once they got going we were never going to look back,” Miller said.
Davis led Fairfield Central’s second quarter scoring 7 points and paving the way on offense, while the Lady Griffins’ defense left the Shamrocks in shambles. Eau Claire was outscored 24-5 in the second period.
With a running clock for the remainder of the game, Fairfield Central was able to maintain their big lead despite being outscored 19-14 in the second half as they cruised to the 30-point win.
“I believe this game will be a confidence builder as we are a game out of second place in the region and hopefully we can use this fuel a run into the playoffs,” Miller said.
The Lady Griffins next game is at Newberry Friday (Feb. 5).
